therapy
I treat the following concerns using Cognitive Behaviour Therapies:
Eating and body image concerns, including loss-of-control eating.
Post Traumatic Stress Disorders
Generalized and social anxiety
Obsessive compulsive disorder
Depression
I am registered to work with clients in both Ontario and Nova Scotia.
For some, reaching out for help can be daunting. It is easy for this to be placed lower and lower on your priority list - something to do next week or once a project is complete. It is rare that people tell me that they are glad they waited to start their journey. If you are reading this, it is likely that you know therapy could be helpful for you. If this is the case, a simple email requesting an introductory phone call is a great first step: contact@lisaboniferro.ca

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy is well established to be an effective approach for a wide range of concerns, including eating disorders, PTSD, depression, anxiety, and OCD. Most treatments take 12 to 20 sessions to complete.
-
Starting Well
The initial stage of treatment is focused on understanding your concerns and developing treatment goals. For most treatments, making early behavioural change is important to getting the outcome you want so this is often introduced early.

Doing the Therapy
Attending 1-hour of therapy per week is usually not enough to produce the relief people want to achieve. CBT is a highly active approach to therapy and what you do in the other 167-hours in the week is the most important part. Think of your therapist as your coach and between sessions as your daily practice.

Relapse prevention
Success in therapy is more than just how you feel after a session. Relapse prevention is a woven through the sessions and a plan is developed at the end of treatment so you can continue to maintain the progress you have made.
